Prayer of the Day
Our Classic and Modern services will be using the prayer of the day as provided by Sundays and Seasons.
O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus, you are the city that shelters us, the mother who comforts us. With your Spirit accompany us on our life’s journey, that we may spread your peace in all the world, through your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
Prayers of the Church (used at our Classic service)
Ascension will be using prayers provided by Sundays and Seasons, lightly adapted for use in our context.
Drawn into the embrace of the holy Trinity, we lift our prayers for the wholeness of the church, the world, and all creation.
A brief silence
Your harvest is plentiful, O God. Make us laborers and companions with one another in this assembly. Send your peace to rest upon us, heal divisions among us, and open our hearts to receive one another as gifts from you. God of grace,
receive our prayer.
You send your church into the world with a message of peace. Center the whole church in this peace, and strengthen our faith by the example of all those who creatively and faithfully proclaim your good news. God of grace,
receive our prayer.
We give thanks to God for the freedom and abundance that we experience as a nation and pray that we will continue to challenge ourselves to embrace and demonstrate in our lives and laws values of freedom, justice, equality and care for all people. God of grace,
receive our prayer.
As a mother comforts her child, so you comfort us. Bring this comfort to those in any pain. Carry your people when grief is heavy, and lift burdens of shame and self-doubt. We pray especially for **insert name here** who is receiving hospice care. We also pray today for the family and friends of **insert name here** who died last week. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
God of grace,
receive our prayer.
You have written our names in heaven, O God, and we rejoice. We thank you for those who have lived and died in your love. Accompany us on our life’s journey and draw us at last to life forever in you. God of grace,
receive our prayer.
Gather all our prayers in your mercy, O God, through Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Amen.
Prayers of the People (used at our Modern service)
These prayers are influenced by the Prayers of the Church above.
Let us pray.
Gathered together in the presence of God, we pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.
God, your harvest is abundant. Equip us to be workers in your kingdom and partners in our community. Send your church into the world with a message of peace, and strengthen our faith through the example of all those who faithfully and courageously share your good news.
God, we thank you for the freedom and abundance we experience as a nation. We pray that we will continue to challenge ourselves and our elected leaders to uphold and embody the values of freedom, equality, liberty, and justice for all people in our lives and laws.
God, just as parents comfort their children, so you comfort us. Bring your comfort and compassion to all who are suffering. Carry and sustain your children whose burdens are too great to bear. We pray especially for **insert name here** who is receiving hospice care. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
Gather all our prayers in your mercy, O God, through Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Amen.
