Prayer of the Day

Our Classic and Modern services will be using the prayer of the day as provided by Clergy Stuff in 2020-21, lightly adapted .

Uniting God, you have gathered your children from every corner of the earth and called us your own. Continue to bring us together as the body of Christ, for the purpose of living your love and telling the story of our risen Lord.
Amen.

Prayers of the Church (used at our Classic service)

Ascension will be using prayers provided by Clergy Stuff in 2020-21, adapted for use in our context

Sustained by the promised Holy Spirit, we pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.

A brief silence

As the fire of your gospel filled the disciples long ago, so ignite us and unite us for the work of your justice. Holy Spirit,
receive our prayer.

As students, educators, administrators, and staff begin to see the end of another academic year, we celebrate all that has been accomplished and release all that could not be fulfilled during these past nine months. Bring us into a season of rest and rejuvenation, thankful for all the blessings of our shared experience and hopeful for the future of each new generation. Holy Spirit,
receive our prayer.

Bring relief from fires burning out of control, and bring new life from scorched earth, as we continue to find ways to mend this damaged planet. Holy Spirit,
receive our prayer.

Heal divisions in our world and bring people to the essential awareness that we are all one, born of one creator. Bless those who need your healing this day. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **inset names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
Holy Spirit,
receive our prayer.

For those who grieve and those who are approaching the end of their lives, we pray your peace and acceptance of the changing seasons of life. Keep us close to those we love, whether in this world or in the next, through the uniting love of Christ. Holy Spirit,
receive our prayer.

Incline your ear to our prayers and fill us with power to begin living out our faith, by the power of your Son our savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Prayers of the People (used at our Modern service)
These prayers are influenced by the Prayers of the Church above.

Filled with the promised Holy Spirit, we pray for the church, the world, and those in need.

As the fire of the Holy Spirit filled the disciples in the upper room so many years ago, may we too be filled to overflowing with your Spirit.  Embolden us to tell your story to all people in all nations.

As wildfires scorch the land, we pray for relief.  Send rain and sources of water to extinguish and control the fires.  Give peace and comfort to the firefighters and to those whose homes and livelihoods are threatened.

Heal divisions between people and bring us all to the realization that we are one in you.  Bless and sustain those who need your healing of body, mind, and spirit.  We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?

Receive our prayers and fill us with the power to live out our faith, through your Son our savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
