Prayer of the Day
Our Classic and Modern services will be using the prayer of the day as provided by Sundays and Seasons.
Eternal God, you draw near to us in Christ, and you make yourself our guest. Amid the cares of our lives, make us attentive to your presence, that we may treasure your word above all else, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
Prayers of the Church (used at our Classic service)
Ascension will be using prayers provided by Sundays and Seasons, lightly adapted for use in our context.
In solidarity with all creation, we join our voice to the voice of the whole church and pray for the needs of the world.
A brief silence
Inspire your church, as you inspired Mary, to listen with eager longing for your words of life. Equip biblical interpreters and teachers with faithful discernment, that your word may be more fully known. God of grace,
receive our prayer.
Enliven and uphold all siblings in Christ who strive to provide hospitality and safe spaces where everyone, without exception, can receive and be transformed by your word of life. God of grace,
receive our prayer.
Peel away the distractions, worries, and fears of all who govern the nations of the world. May your word of love and life dispel all other voices. Provide gracious hospitality in places where hostile forces hold sway. God of grace,
receive our prayer.
Speak your word of comfort to any who suffer pain, illness, grief, depression, or despair. Bring honor to any who experience harm or are discredited by others because of who they are. We pray especially for **insert name here** who is receiving hospice care. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
God of grace,
receive our prayer.
For all the saints who attended to your word, we give thanks. Open our ears to your voice until that day when we realize the promise of the gospel with all creation. God of grace,
receive our prayer.
Trusting in your lovingkindness, we place our prayer and hope in you, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Prayers of the People (used at our Modern service)
These prayers are influenced by the Prayers of the Church above.
Let us pray.
Joined together as one with all of creation, we pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.
Inspire your church to be open to your word. Strengthen our teachers to faithfully share your truth, and give them a spirit of discernment to know what your truth really is. Uplift those with the gift of hospitality, that they may reflect your love in all they do.
Guide our leaders as they govern. Let your words of life and love ring loudly in their ears and hearts, that all other voices of influence and temptation and power-grabbing may fall silent. Motivate them to seek with grace what is best for all your creation.
We pray for all those who struggle with illness of body, mind, and spirit. Surround them with your peace, and bring them healing from their illness. We pray especially for **insert name here** who is receiving hospice care. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
Trusting in your lovingkindness, we place our prayer and hope in you, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
